New Antarctic research studies for 2013

Drs Linda Larcombe, Pamela Orr, Neelofer Mookherjee, from the University of Manitoba, have joined with Dr. Alexander Kumar of Oxford University to launch 2 new Antarctic research studies in 2013. Both will study the immune system and Vitamin D metabolism– one among those living at the Concordia Antarctic Research Station (Dome C), and one among the members of the first Trans-Antarctic Winter Expedition led by Sir Ranulph Fiennes. The expedition begins March 21, 2013 when the 6 member team will set out on a 6 month 4,000 kilometer journey across the continent.

Dr. Larcombe and Orr are also currently working with Denesuline First Nation (Lac Brochet), Roseau River Anishinabe First Nation in Manitoba, the Faculty of Engineering and the Centre for Human Rights Research at the University of Manitoba to investigate the relationships between housing, water, sanitation and health.
